It’s the most important thing there is.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a celebrant?

A celebrant is a trained, accredited professional who is in is the role of creating ceremonies for couples with limitless choices of locations and content to personalise.

A celebrant meets with the couple, listens and talks through their journey together and their wishes for the wedding. They write the ceremony, attend the venue and officiate and lead on the wedding day. Being a celebrant allows me to create the ideal ceremony for you both and then deliver it on one of the biggest and most significant days in your life together.

2. Can you legally marry myself and my partner?

No, I can’t at present. Whilst this may all change in the future, with a proposed Bill being presented to the government to reform the marriage law to allow celebrants to also legally marry people in the UK. Currently, you need to book in to see your registrar, usually the week or the morning just before the ceremony to complete the legal paperwork. This is called the wedding licence and costs around £75 in most local councils. Registrars are employed by the council and are not independent or self-employed. They offer ceremonies within designated rooms at the council buildings and come out to venues that have wedding licenses for specific rooms or parts of a venue. Ceremonies do not usually exceed 15 minutes. The wording of the ceremony is not personalised and has to stick to a script that is the same for each couple.

1.     How do you approach the ceremony?

It’s important to me to start a conversation with you both, an informal initial consultation, usually followed up with a couple’s questionnaire. Then, I will go away and craft your ceremony, but be prepared to talk further and re-draft and tweak the ceremony where required so that all parties are happy. I advise rehearsing the ceremony prior to the wedding day, where possible, so you can feel confident, relaxed and enjoy your special day.

4. How do your three-ceremony options work?

The three-ceremony option is all about offering you and your partner choice; both in the selection of the ceremony and the price. The Purple Rose package offers you the traditional celebrant ceremony from initial consultation to crafted ceremony script and me as a celebrant on the day to help make your day truly memorable. For other couples, they may have already identified a family member or friend to lead on the day. For those couples, the pink rose celebrant coach package is just right, with me writing the script and coaching your chosen one to feel confident delivering on the day. Finally, the blush rose package allows you to simply ask me to consult, listen and write you a ceremony script to share with your loved ones.

5.   What’s your background and skills?

I am confident to say that I’m an expert in the performing arts from running my own theatre company for fifteen years, to teaching drama across state and independent education. I have a diverse range of skills and experience, including being a qualified teacher, an accredited performance coach and holding an MBA in Collaborative Leadership from Christ Church University.

6. What is it you most love about being a celebrant?

That’s an easy one! Spreading joy, putting love at the heart of the ceremony and capturing someone’s unique love story. Bringing a community of people together to celebrate; after all relationships are the true measure of a happy and successful life.

7.   Do you just do ceremonies in Sussex?

The majority of my ceremonies are in Lewes and the surrounding areas to serve the local community. However, if you would like me to perform a ceremony somewhere else please do contact me and we’ll discuss it further.
